Dr Kron now offers earFold implants. This innovative surgical technique permanently corrects ear cartilage malformations, and particularly prominent ears.
Update of 04/12/2024: Production of earFold implants has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The most suitable therapeutic alternative is otoplasty. While otoplasty is a surgical procedure that must be performed in a clinic under local or general anesthesia, recovery is generally straightforward, even though wearing a compression headband is required.
earFold implants correct or enhance the fold of the antihelix, the most common cause of prominent ears.
Using a nickel-titanium alloy (Nitinol), these shape-memory implants correct protrusion while allowing the ear cartilage to retain all its flexibility. Coated with a thin layer of 24-carat medical-grade gold, the implant is invisible beneath the skin.
Compared to otoplasty, placing earFold implants is a minimally invasive technique that offers numerous advantages:
- The procedure is performed in 20 minutes directly at the surgeon's practice,
- No post-operative bandaging,
- No stitches to remove,
- Return to daily activities immediately after the procedure.
The placement of earFold implants is a technique suited for adults, teenagers and children who have prominent ears and wish to benefit from a technique that is significantly less invasive than otoplasty.
Dr Kron is one of the first French surgeons to have performed earFold implant placement. He was trained directly by the inventor of the procedure: Norbert Kang, an English surgeon practicing at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
