A scar is the visible part of a lesion of the dermis. It is an integral part of the skin tissue healing process. A scar can result from trauma (an injury) or a surgical procedure (following an incision of the dermis). All skin lesions result in scars, with the exception of the most superficial lesions, which only affect the epidermis.

\n

There are several non-surgical techniques for reducing, partially or almost completely removing a scar (peel, laser, tattooing, ointment, injections, etc.). These can produce very satisfactory results on certain types of scars. The PRX-T33 biorevitalizing peel notably effectively reduces recent depressed scars (acne, chickenpox or impetigo scars, superficial traumatic or post-surgical scars).

Skin surgery is particularly suited to correcting scars considered unsightly due to their width, color, lack of regularity, or accentuated or sunken texture. Surgical treatment is appropriate for scars presenting the following abnormalities in particular:

Retractile scars:

These are scars that are \"curled up\" due to a narrowing of the scar area causing traction on the skin tissue. They form relatively rigid, slightly raised fibrous cords compared to the level of the surrounding skin. This type of scar is often unsightly and can, in some cases, cause functional discomfort (during certain movements, for example).

Ulcerated scars:

These are particularly fragile scars, which can be subject to superficial abrasions that may deepen and worsen over time.

\n

Hypertrophic or keloid scars:

\n

These are inflammatory scars, generally painful, with a very pronounced texture and a red color. Unlike hypertrophic scars, keloid scars tend to continue evolving after the wound has healed.

Generally speaking, skin surgery can correct any scar considered unsightly due to its width, color, lack of regularity, or texture.
